Choosing a Poster
Posters are great for brightening up a room and paying homage to your favourite bands, football teams, movies and other interests. If you are looking for a new music poster to cover the cracks in your bedroom wall it might be a bit tough deciding which one to get. Well fear no longer, because we have put together a no-nonsense guide to finding the right music posters for your walls!
1. Portrait or landscape?
Remember that portrait images are taller and landscape images are wider. Depending on what picture you choose will decide which orientation the poster will be. For example, if you were buying a picture of a city skyline then a landscape picture may be best but if you want a picture of Liam Gallagher squaring up to the microphone, portrait would suit more!
2. To frame or not to frame?
If you decide to frame your poster it will preserve it and generally look nicer. Having said that if you buy quite a few posters, framing each one might cost a lot of money, so this decision is down to you but personally I would not frame a poster unless it was a signed copy or something of equal importance.
3. Colour or black and white?
Black and white images tend to look a little more “arty” but full-colour posters can really bring a room to life! If you have a slightly dull room that needs brightening up, opt for a colour poster but if you live in a more minimalist environment, go for a black and white poster.
Also, black and white is often used in pictures that tell a fascinating story, like a close up of John Lennon as he smokes a cigarette or a wide, blurry crowd at a massive concert.
4. Print or poster?
Posters are generally large and printed on thin paper, where prints are usually smaller and available in white frames. Standard sized posters generally cost more than their smaller prints but each serves their respective purpose; both suit different decors and both make excellent gifts!
5. Sizes
Every poster we list on Rock Prints includes information about its size. Before you buy you should check that you have adequate space on your walls for the print or poster to live, otherwise it might look a little strange!
